Learning Objectives

 Learners engaging with the programme will:

  • Explore what the terms equality, diversity and inclusion mean in the learner’s own organisational context.
  • Explore structural inequality in organisational and societal contexts.
  • Consider the evolution of understanding of the EDI agenda and metamorphosis to equity, belonging and enrichment.
  • Share learner’s own examples of good practice and success stories.
  • Explore the complexity of organisational ecosystems and their impact on delivering the EDI agenda.
  • Consider, examine, and develop actions to overcome learner’s key challenges and barriers to delivering EDI.
  • Explore the relationship between organisational culture and successful delivery of EDI outcomes.
  • Consider the role of the 2010 Act and other legislative or regulatory frameworks on progressing EDI outcomes.
  • Explore and critically review research, models, frameworks, and case studies relating to delivery of EDI outcomes.
  • Investigate bias and the impact this has on delivering EDI outcomes in the organisational context.
  • Analyse the complexity of the leader’s role in creating a culture which empowers EDI.

To pass this unit learners will critically assess inequality within organisations and society. They will then discuss legislative frameworks, appraise the relationship between EDI and organisational strategy and present a business case for best practice in EDI. Learners will then go on to select and analyse appropriate organisational data before developing strategic EDI priorities and a supporting strategic plan

Propose a business case for EDI and develop a strategy for developing and embedding EDI in their own organisation.

Accreditation Support

Participants undertaking the CMI qualification will be supported throughout their learning journey by regular tutorial sessions, supporting resources and comprehensive formative and summative assessment and feedback processes.

Day 1

On Day 1 participants will Explore what the terms equality, diversity and inclusion mean in the learner’s own organisational context. We will explore structural inequality in organisational and societal contexts before considering the evolution of understanding of the EDI agenda and metamorphosis of terms to include equity, belonging and enrichment. Learner’s will share their own examples of good practice and success stories before analysing the complexity of the organisational ecosystems and the impact it has on delivering EDI outcomes.

Day 2

Day 2 explores the relationship between organisational culture and successful delivery of EDI outcomes before considering the role of the 2010 Act and other legislative or regulatory frameworks on progressing EDI outcomes and consider the moral and financial business case as alternatives to the legislative ‘business case’. Participants will then critically review research, models, frameworks, and case studies relating to the delivery of successful EDI outcomes. The day concludes with an investigation of bias and the impact this has on delivering EDI outcomes in the organisational context.

Day 3

Day 3 commences with learners analysing the complexity of the leader’s role in creating a culture which enables the delivery of successful EDI outcomes before exploring the role of data, measures, performance management and reporting on the delivery of EDI. The programme will conclude with consideration, examination and analysis of the learner’s key challenges and barriers to delivering EDI in their organisations before drawing upon the taught concepts of the programme to design or enhance the learner’s organisational EDI strategic objectives.
