Course Overview

This programme is tailored for current and aspiring senior leaders in the healthcare sector. Our design and delivery team comprises leadership development professionals with extensive experience in both private and NHS healthcare settings. 

Participants will have the opportunity to deeply explore the role of a leader in enabling their teams to navigate challenges and seize opportunities within the sector. The programme covers both mainstream and sector-specific leadership and organisational models, frameworks, case studies, and research. To enhance individual development, a person-centred coaching approach is integrated throughout the course. 

The aim of this unit is to equip leaders with an in-depth understanding of strategic leadership within an organisational context. Leaders will explore the complexities of the role and the theoretical perspectives, approaches, behaviours, and skills that can enhance their professional practice. 

The unit focuses on the leader’s ability to respond creatively to complex organisational challenges and understand how to set and deliver sustainable strategic goals.

Learners engaging with this programme will:

  • Undertake an in-depth analysis of their own operating environment and use scenario planning and future scoping approaches to explore the next steps for healthcare. 

  • Investigate agile and innovative principles and the behaviours required for successful application. 

  • Understand the intricacies of leading in complex environments. 

  • Consider how to build a future-ready organisational culture. 

  • Apply a range of innovative strategy and diagnostic tools to shape organisational outcomes. 

  • Analyse the principles and practice of change.  

Accreditation:

This qualification is mapped to a CMI accredited Level 7 Certificate in Strategic Management and Leadership Practice. To receive the CMI Level 7 Qualification (Masters Level 7), you must complete the two assignments outlined below: 

Assignment 1 - Unit Number & Credit Value (CV) 

712 – Strategic Approaches to Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (CV 10) 

Assessment Method:

  • Identify and undertake a strategic management project of your own choosing. 

  • Develop a business case, propose a research design to inform the project’s direction, and recommend project management methods and tools to structure the delivery of the project. 

  • Report on project outcomes and reflect on the skills and behaviours that ultimately influence the success of the strategic management project. 

  • Propose a business case, research design, and project management proposal before conducting and reporting on the findings of a strategic management project. 

Assignment 2 - Unit Number & Credit Value (CV): 714 – Strategic Leadership (CV 9) 

Assessment Method:

  • Critically reflect on the interrelationship between the skillset and mindset required to develop as a strategic leader. 

  • Explore your own personal, interpersonal, and professional competencies and behaviours to lead strategically and deliver impact. 

  • Reflective journal and Personal Development Plan. 

Accreditation Support:

You will be supported by regular tutorial sessions, supporting resources, and comprehensive formative and summative assessment and feedback processes.

  • Examine the relationship between leadership and organisational culture. 

  • Explore the leader’s role in building resilient teams. 

  • Understand how culture, leadership, and the attraction and retention of talent manifest in healthcare. 

  • Define and deliver high-performing teams in healthcare environments. 

  • Discuss the role of coaching and mentoring as tools for people development.

Day Three – The Wider System 

  • Explore the strategic organisational context in which educational leadership takes place. 

  • Discuss the challenges and opportunities of operating in VUCA (Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, and Ambiguous) environments. 

  • Understand how to link values, vision, and shared purpose to your role in delivering strategic outcomes. 

  • Examine where innovation, disruption, and commercial acumen fit in healthcare environments. 

  • Share observations on leading in complex organisational systems. 

  • Learn about leading strategic change.
