2nd Government Digital Technology Congress: Excellence in digital, technology and data

One of the key and defining UK Government Technology Trends for 2019 will, of course, be Brexit, the UK’s departure from the EU will play a decisive role in public sector IT developments. The UK government will need to ensure that its IT systems can cope with any outcome of Brexit.

The impact on the central government has already been felt and will continue to do so. Financial, operational and technical challenges are unavoidable. The home office’s Digital Services at the Border programme is also widening its scope and will inevitably stumble across some Brexit related complications.

The impact of Brexit on law enforcement could also be huge, with police chiefs voicing their growing concern about the possibility of being shut out of crucial continent-wide criminal databases and tools such as the European arrest warrants.

The NHS, education, and local government will also face an array of Brexit-related challenges this year.

2018 proved a whirlwind of a year for the public sector, with technology solutions being core to our preparation for Brexit. With new GDPR legislation changing people’s perceptions of data and ambitious leader in the form of the new, digitally savvy, Health Secretary (Matt Hancock) and new Ministry of Defence CIO (Charles Forte), it’s an excellent foundation for why 2019 will be an even better year for public sector tech.

On the 9th of May 2019, Our 2nd Government Digital Technology: Excellence in digital, technology and data will provide a platform to listen, learn and discuss how technology will have to adapt and change through an uncertain future.

We’d like to share how we’ve worked with Metropolitan Thames Valley Housing and Hackney Council to improve services and save time and money, while ensuring clients are happy to release an MVP which is often a cultural challenge” Metropolitan Thames Valley Housing and dxw digital Thames Valley Housing (TVH) was a housing association that operated across a wide region to the southwest of London and Berkshire. Recently, it went into partnership with Metropolitan Housing, becoming Metropolitan Thames Valley (MTVH). MyTVH is a digital service, built by TVH and dxw digital, that enables residents to pay their rents, raise and track repair requests, send enquiries and submit housing applications online. This now needs to be expanded to meet the needs of Metropolitan users too. The digital service will be iterated to cater for different user groups, communicate with Metropolitan’s back-end systems, and drive the same business outcomes TVH has been enjoying. MTVH and dxw digital will talk about the challenges and solutions, and how we will balance roll-out priorities with the existing needs of the digital service. Working with Hackney Council Hackney Council and dxw digital worked together to develop an online housing repairs service for Hackney’s residents. dxw worked closely with Hackney’s in-house teams and we’ve taken the service from alpha into live, building on the minimum viable product that we released after alpha. The service has grown in scope and now allows residents to book their own appointments, so that 55% of them are now able to self-serve without having to call the resident contact centre. We’ll talk about what we learned from getting a minimal service into the world and building on it, and how this approach has helped Hackney Council do the right thing for users.
