NHS England is responsible for commissioning healthcare for children, young people and adults across secure and detained settings, which includes prisons, secure facilities for children and young people, Liaison and Diversion services and immigration removal centres. Our ambition is to improve health and care outcomes for these individuals, support safer communities and social cohesion and to narrow the health inequalities gap between those in the criminal justice system and the rest of the population. As part of this, we support a reduction in the number of people who are detained as a result of undiagnosed and untreated mental health issues and continuity of care after release.
