National Association of Sessional GPs (nasgp)

The NASGP (National Association of Sessional GPs) is the UK’s only independent membership body for the flexible primary care workforce. Working in partnership with the NHS, the NASGP works with commissioner and provider organisations as a workforce stability partner. Aiding geographical workforce strategies to access greater capacity, and achieve long-term, sustainable solutions.

Home to thousands of portfolio and sessional healthcare professionals, the NASGP provides members with ongoing career support in the form of a holistic work management toolkit including a digital platform which enables them to find and secure work.

By working alongside ICBs, PCNs, GP Federations and provider organisations, NASGP ensures that sessional GPs are not just an afterthought in workforce planning, but a core part of a sustainable, long-term NHS workforce model.

Founded nearly 30 years ago by Dr Richard Fieldhouse - with his real-world experience of being a traditional NHS locum GP – he brought a sense of equality for those who chose to work in a non-partnership way and was instrumental in lobbying for pension rights for sessional workers.

Representing a driving force behind change, innovation and progression, NASGP is constantly evolving to enable the NHS to realise and access a more sustainable and efficient workforce model. It is the national voice for sessional GPs and a scalable workforce solution for primary care overall.
