Clare qualified as a RGN in 1990 from St Bartholomew’s Hospital London and later as a sick children’s nurse in Cambridge in 2000. Her clinical career spans across MAU, adult and Paediatric ITU, general medicine and more recently palliative care.

Like many nurses, with more experienced she moved into management and being passionate about direct clinical care, commenced as a medical nurse practitioner in 2001 in Harlow, Essex. She moved to Derbyshire in 2004 to be with her now husband and has developed a robust ACP service and supported Derbyshire in working collaboratively to facilitate development of a workforce that can meet service needs of the future.

Clare has been part of Health Education England for many years now supporting both the national ACP team and locally East Midlands Post Graduate Medical Education where she is Associate Dean for interprofessional learning. Up to March 2020 she was also working with NHSE/I where she led the urgent & emergency care ACP fast track program which supported 28 trusts across England. In addition to the above Clare’s ACP related work includes:

• Contributing to the Multi-professional Framework for Advanced Clinical Practice in England (HEE 2017)
• Chair of the Surgical ACP curriculum development
• Supporting development of an ACP core curriculum
• Development of the toolkit to facilitate implementation of the framework.
• Supporting development of “credentials” for ACP

Clare is also a retired sponsored rally driver, married to Alistair, an ex-national rally champion. When not working, Clare enjoys spending time with her two stepchildren, six brothers and sisters in law, 15 nieces and nephews, nine great nieces and nephews … and her own mum and brother!
