Daniel Hodgkiss

Patient Safety Assistant Programme Manager/ Managing Deterioration National Co-Lead

Daniel joined WMAHSN in 2019 and leads the national Managing Deterioration Safety Improvement Programme for the West Midlands focusing on patient deterioration in a multitude of settings.  Daniel supported the development and rollout of Covid Oximetry @ Home and Covid Virtual Ward pathways across the West Midlands.  Daniel is supporting the pilot testing of a national Paediatric Early Warning Score and further roll-out of deterioration management tools in non-acute settings.  Daniel is now one of the national co-leads for the Managing Deterioration Safety Improvement Programme. Daniel worked previously from 2014 as a Patient Safety Manager at Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust, where he developed a nationally recognised initiative relating to the management of frequent attenders to A&E. Daniel embeds Appreciative Inquiry and the development of positive safety cultures across the UK, and presented at the World Appreciative Inquiry Conference 2019. Daniel was part of the 2018 HSJ winning team for the Clinical Governance and Risk Management Award and the Patient Safety Meridian Award in 2019.  Daniel is a national HSJ Judge since 2019 and promotes the sharing of best practices across the UK.  Daniel has a real passion for developing positive safety cultures in healthcare using Quality Improvement and Appreciative Inquiry approaches.
