Dr David Dorward

Dr David Dorward is Consultant Thoracic Pathologist at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Edinburgh, and Digital Pathology Lead for NHS Lothian. He also serves as co-lead of the Integrated Lothian Digital Pathology Research Group. His clinical practice focuses on the diagnosis and molecular characterisation of pulmonary malignancies, with an emphasis on multidisciplinary collaboration to optimise tissue acquisition, molecular testing, and tumour phenotyping.

A major focus of his current work is the clinical evaluation, validation, and deployment of digital pathology and artificial intelligence, often in collaboration of academic and industry partners. This includes integrating AI-enabled workflows into routine pathology practice to support biomarker scoring, molecular diagnostics, and digital reporting across regional and national networks.
