Dr Harrison Carter is Director of Screening at NHS England, with overall responsibility for 11 national screening programmes in England that invite 15 million people, screen 10 million and save an estimated 10,000 lives each year. He also oversees the Child Health Information Service, and the National Screening Quality Assurance Service, and contributes to national policy as a stakeholder member of the UK National Screening Committee and several of its expert groups.
Harrison has led major expansion and modernisation across screening including introducing or extending screening for rare childhood conditions, and targeted prostate cancer; implementing HPV self-testing, non-invasive prenatal testing; lowering the bowel screening age to 50 and increasing participation in breast and bowel screening; and advancing digital invitations, app-based cervical screening communications, home-based testing and AI-enabled services.
