Dr Majid Kazmi

Director of Research & Innovation for Cancer and Surgery and Consultant Haematologist

Dr Kazmi qualified from the University of Aberdeen in 1991 with Commendation, he is a member of European group for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT), International Myeloma Society, Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management and American Society of Haematology (ASH). He has been a consultant since 2001 at Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Trust (GSTT). There he held multiple roles including Chief of Cancer and oversaw the building and opening of the new £160m Guys Cancer Centre in 2016. He is currently Director of Research, Innovation, commercial and Digital for Cancer and Surgery at GSTT. He is a Haemato-oncologist with specific expertise in Myeloma/ AL Amyloidosis and stem cell transplantation. He has pioneered the field of stem cell transplantation for auto-immune disease in the UK. He is a former CQC specialist adviser and has supported the work of NICE in providing expert advice to support technology appraisals in myeloma. He has published over 75 peer reviewed papers and over 400 conference papers. He has authored practice changing guidelines in Myeloma and Amyloidosis. Dr Kazmi is seen as an innovator in healthcare. He helped set up the first Trust AI board and appointed the first clinical Cancer AI lead in a UK hospital. Working with colleagues he led the concept design around an AI evaluation Centre in Cancer which has been adopted by the Trust. Some of this thinking helped inform the BSI standards for AI evaluation in healthcare. He is Chief Medical Officer and Chief Commercial Officer for PharosAI which was successfully awarded £18.9m from the UK Government and raised £25m in matched industry funding to develop multi-modal data refinery in Cancer care. He is a recipient of a $3m NIH grant for a study into prevention of Chemotherapy induced peripheral neuropathy. He sits on the board of 4 start-up companies and is a clinical advisor to a medium sized Venture Capital Company investing in Life Sciences.
