Elizabeth Rix

Liz Rix MBE joined Swansea Bay University Health Board as Executive Director of Nursing and Patient Experience in March 2025 and, in 2026, also took on the role of Deputy Chief Executive. She brings more than four decades of nursing experience and extensive executive leadership experience across NHS Wales and England. 

Liz trained as a nurse in Swansea and went on to hold senior nursing leadership positions across Wales and England, including Chief Nurse roles at University Hospitals of North Midlands and Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust.  
 
Throughout her executive career, Liz has provided professional leadership across nursing and midwifery, with a strong focus on professional development, education, workforce, quality, patient safety and patient experience.

Her experience includes supporting the development of midwifery strategy and strengthening maternity governance and oversight.
 
Central to Liz’s leadership approach is creating a culture of continuous improvement and supporting people to develop, grow and reach their full potential. 
She is passionate about developing nurses and midwives and creating environments where teams are empowered to learn, improve and deliver safe, high-quality and compassionate care.

In 2023, Liz was awarded an MBE for services to nursing leadership, recognising her significant contribution to the nursing profession throughout her career.
