Ish Ahmed is a Consultant General and Upper GI Surgeon at North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust. His work combines frontline surgical practice with clinical, operational and digital leadership. He has previously served as Clinical Lead for Emergency General Surgery and Acute Biliary Services and is an Associate Director of Information Systems.
He led the development of the North Tees Acute Biliary Pathway, which features as a case study in the GIRFT best practice guide Delivering an Emergency Gallbladder Service. He is also supporting the GIRFT team to mentor trusts taking part in the Further Faster 10 Hot Gallbladder Pathway Quality Improvement Collaborative.
Ish has presented this work through HFMA, focusing on how clinicians and finance teams can work together to improve patient care, productivity and value. He has a particular interest in pathway redesign, improving patient flow and bridging the traditional divide between emergency and elective care.
