Kay Mulcahy

Kay leads national operational effectiveness for both hard and soft FM services across the NHS, with a focus on productivity, digital transformation, and workforce development.

A Chartered Manager and professional caterer by background, Kay brings over 30 years of NHS experience in Estates and Facilities Management. She is driven by a commitment to delivering high-quality services that enhance patient care, firmly believing that Estates and Facilities are central to the healthcare experience.

Kay joined NHS England in April 2024 following a distinguished career at Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, where she served as Director of Estates and Facilities and was the ICS estates lead for Nottinghamshire. She is a passionate advocate for the profession, serving as a STEM and T-Level Ambassador and actively mentoring the next generation of estates and facilities professionals.

A strong leader and innovator, Kay is dedicated to reducing health inequalities and elevating the profile of Estates and Facilities within the NHS. She also champions education and workforce development through her role as a college governor.

Kay was an active member of the Health Estates and Facilities Management Association (HEFMA) for the past 17 years, including roles as Trent Branch Chair, Assistant National Secretary, and Board Director. In May 2024, she completed her term as HEFMA’s first female National Chair.
