Martin Farran

Management Consultant
former Director Adult Social Care (DASS)

I have over 35 years experience of working in social care (and health); working in a variety of settings and different organisations, but predominantly in local government. I began my career as a Care Assistant, and worked in Supported Accommodation before becoming a qualified Social Worker (CQSW and Approved Social Worker ASW) and manager. Initially working in child protection / neighbourhood team and mental health services.

I have been an Executive Director for over 16 years, in several Local Authorities, with a range of responsibilities, predominantly ASC, but also including Community Development and Safety, Housing (strategy and direct delivery), Public Health etc.

I was national ADASS Personalisation Lead for a number of years, and my combined experiences has created a particular personal and professional focus on:-

  • Personalisation - strength based practice, supporting people to maximise their independence, choice and control
  • Customer / Outcome Focused
  • Community Development ABCD – ensuring people are connected to their community; and communities are enable to identify and address their own issues
  • Accommodation with Support – developing a broad range of supported living
  • Workforce Development – supporting the workforce across the system to have the skills, abilities and capacity to deliver the quality of care and support we need
