Matt Aiello

National Lead for Urgent and Emergency Care
Health Education England

Matt is engaged in the research and development of innovative workforce transformation programmes, with an aim to address the Urgent and Emergency Care workforce challenges in the UK. Since taking up post in 2013, Matt has prepared and delivered an award-winning portfolio of pilot and test-of-concept projects. Which includes UK-first research and development to evidence the role of Pharmacist Clinicians in Urgent and Emergency Care; development of workforce strategies and new roles to support Physician Associates; international workforce projects, high-fidelity simulation planning and technology enhanced learning.

Matt is currently leading Health Education England’s national Urgent and Emergency Care programme. Which, includes: A UK-first pilot to develop Clinical Educator roles in the Emergency Department; development of multi-professional rotational programmes in urgent and emergency care; a programme to identify training needs and provide focused EM “shop-floor” training for Non-Training Grade doctors; multi-disciplinary Advanced Clinical Practice training and development of in-service strategies for paramedic independent prescribing.

Through his programme work and linked published works, Matt aims to demonstrate the value of a genuinely integrated, multi-professional, “front line” clinical team.
