Richard Wardle

Starting over 35 years ago in the NHS, Richard considers himself incredibly fortunate to have had a wide and varied career gaining experience across a number of roles. Starting as a trainee MLSO in Haematology at Nottingham’s Queens Medical Centre, Richard’s career has taken him through the scientific ranks in pathology via several Trusts, into pathology and general management, culminating in his appointment as Head of Pathology for the South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Pathology (SYBP) Service in 2022.

During his current role, and in the run up to the inception of SYBP in April 2024, Richard has had a privileged position of being afforded the experience of how pathology networks can be formed, the considerations taken, the mechanisms used, the benefits, and indeed the pitfalls.
