Sarah has been a GP since 1995. Her first 10 years were spent in Bradford where she developed interests in mental health and substance misuse. She was clinical lead for mental health for North Bradford PCT.
She has experience of commissioning in both a PCT and a CCG, leading initiatives in mental health, developing clinical leadership, and integrated care.
In 2005 she joined the healthcare team in HMP Isle of Wight, where she has worked with the team to deliver a number of improvements in healthcare, including improved management of long term conditions and safer prescribing.
She joined Practice Plus Group in June 2013 as the National Medical Director for Health in Justice. Practice Plus Group is the largest provider of prison healthcare services delivering care in 43 establishments across the country. Sarah has been responsible for clinical strategy and quality assurance and improvement for the Health in Justice service line. She has led a number of quality improvement initiatives to support local teams in delivering high quality care to a vulnerable patient population in very challenging environments.
She is a member of the RCGP Secure Environments Group and the NHSE Clinical Reference Group for Health and Justice. As a member of this group she chaired the Primary Care Service Specification task and finish group and participated in work on Deaths in Custody.
