Case Study - Teledermatology alone is not enough: Leveraging AI to tackle rising dermatology demand in populations with high-incidence rates of skin cancer
Tom Davies
Regional Account Manager
Skin Analytics
Nicki Walsh
Deputy General Manager Networked Medicine
University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust
Case Study - Skin Analytics
Rising urgent suspected skin cancer referrals, finite dermatology capacity and a patient population with high incidence rates of skin cancer. In this session, University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust (UHD) and Skin Analytics share how they addressed these challenges by implementing Artificial Intelligence as a Medical Device (AIaMD), DERM, into their skin cancer pathway.
We'll explore what it takes to successfully deploy technology like AIaMD, including pathway mapping, the involvement of clinical, IT and operational teams, and the collaborative working approach required to ultimately drive better patient outcomes.
Attendees will gain practical insights on the importance of job planning, plus staff engagement and buy-in.
UHD and Skin Analytics will share impact seen from the AI-driven pathway to date as well as future plans for the partnership, looking at expanding to pre-referral models and how to maintain long-term sustainability.

Case Study - Revolutionising Cancer Pathways and Early Detection in Primary Care: Harnessing the Power of AI
Dr Jude Gordon
Clinical Director
C the Signs
Case Study - C the signs
This session will explore how C the Signs is revolutionising cancer detection and referral pathways through AI and advanced data analytics. With over 400,000 cancer risk assessments conducted within the NHS, the platform’s 99% sensitivity, 94% accuracy in predicting tumour origin, and 99% negative predictive value are enabling earlier and more accurate cancer diagnoses, particularly for hard-to-diagnose cases.
C the Signs has significantly impacted Faster Diagnostic Standards (FDS) by improving referral quality and triage, resulting in faster, more targeted care. Examples of key developments will include the C my Signs patient self-referral pathways, which empower patients to initiate their own referrals, and direct access diagnostics, which reduces unnecessary clinic appointments by directing patients straight to the most appropriate tests.
This talk will illustrate how AI-driven tools like C the Signs are not only enhancing diagnostic speed and accuracy, but also transforming patient flow, access to key services, and overall outcomes for both primary and secondary care.

Keynote Presentation - Outpatient transformation: stepping off the hamster wheel (Confirmed)
Laura Ellis
Head of Outpatient Transformation
University Hospital Southampton
Like many organisations in response to post COVID elective recovery and addressing the growth and imbalance between the growing need for outpatient services and our ability to meet those needs to deliver patient care, University hospital Southampton has opted to work differently to break the ground to accelerate, improve and deliver a personalised outpatient service. Despite doing more work than ever before our waiting lists continue to grow, so even when running flat out it sometimes feels as though we’re left standing still.
To address this a dedicated outpatient transformation programme was designed to align with national and organisational objectives to bring services back into equilibrium. By sharing this hopefully the take away today will be how others could do similar using continuous improvement approach.

Keynote Presentation - Transforming the teamworking within outpatients nursing (Confirmed)
Breege Gilbride
Deputy Divisional Director of Nursing for Outpatients and Patient Access
Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust
Outpatient nursing teams differ from those in inpatient areas – they can be fragmented, with clinics sometimes physically separated from one another with limited senior staff oversight. Using a combination of theory, research and practical interventions, this project achieved significant enhancement in the teamworking within a less well performing outpatients nursing team. Success was measured not only via subjective feedback, but also by monitoring indirect indicators (short term absence and staff turnover), both of which showed tangible improvement.
This project formed the basis of the dissertation (theory, research, intervention plan) and work-based project (intervention implementation, monitoring and feedback) for my MA in Leadership at Henley Business School, receiving a Distinction for both elements.
15:05
