I have worked at Northampton General Hospital (NGH) for 35 years starting as an A&C Band 2 Junior Finance Clerk before moving into the Informatics team.  This gave me the chance to work alongside various teams and departments to understand the service behind ‘the statistics’. As manual systems became computerised and Government targets came into place, I ventured into aspects of system training, Key Performance Indicators (KPI) and Demand & Capacity modelling.  I was then coached by the NHS Modernisation Agency in service improvement, process mapping and project management skills whilst also personally broadening my experience of staff line management. I was fortunate to then get an operational role as the Assistant Directorate Manager for Integrated Surgery, Theatres, Anaesthetics and Critical Care covering the management of inpatient, outpatient, diagnostic services and all of the administration for this vast area. I was approached to work alongside our Patient & Nursing Services team on a project to create dashboards for KPIs and Quality Indicators which subsequently led to being approached to become a Senior Project Manager within our IT Department.  In March 2022, the opportunity to bring together all of my skills, experience and passion for good patient care was realised in the chance to become the Head of Patient Experience & Engagement for NGH, a position I am truly proud of.  I now lead a small team to capture patient feedback and experiences across the whole hospital in order to drive forward improvements alongside highlighting areas of expertise and great patient care.
