Derm is a seasoned leader with over 20 years of experience in the NHS, specialising in digital transformation and health technology. Currently serving as the Director of Digital Transformation at NHS England, Derm oversees the digitisation and sharing of Electronic Patient Records (EPR) across Acute, Community, and Mental Health sectors. He is responsible for managing a £3 billion investment to enhance integrated care records and digital capabilities within the NHS.
Previously, Derm held the role of Director of Technology Services at NHS Digital, where he managed IT services during the critical period of the COVID-19 pandemic. His leadership ensured the seamless transition to virtual working environments and the provision of essential IT infrastructure to frontline workers.
Derm’s career also includes his tenure as Director of the Health and Social Care Network at NHS Digital, where he reformed network services in health and social care, and as Director of Provider Support and Integration for London and the South, where he led major change programmes to implement EPRs in healthcare providers.
He holds a master’s degree in Major Programme Management from the University of Oxford and a Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Leeds. Dermot is also pursuing a CHIME certification as a Health CIO.
Outside of his professional life, Derm is an avid cyclist, enjoys outdoor adventures in his campervan with his family, and is a passionate Liverpool FC supporter.
