Dr Emma Mastrocola is the Lead GP at HMP Eastwood Park, a women’s prison in South
Gloucestershire. She completed her undergraduate degree in Medicine and an MSc in
Public Health at Newcastle University and qualified in 2010. It was during this time that
she conducted research into how pregnant substance users access antenatal services
and she began to develop an interest in working with vulnerable women and in particular
how they access healthcare. She has since worked in Manchester and Bristol, always
with a focus on developing experience in this area. Her work has included research into
how street-based sex workers manage chronic disease, and working with specialist
healthcare services for the homeless, asylum seeker and sex worker populations in
Bristol. She has also completed training in Substance Addiction Medicine.
