Dr Heather Ryan graduated from Oxford University in 2008, gained her medical degree from the University of London in 2011, and qualified as a GP in 2017. She has enjoyed a varied career to date, including three years as a GP partner and time spent as a freelance Out of Hours GP. Since February 2021 she has worked 4 sessions a week as the GP at Rowan View medium secure mental health unit. She also works at the private GP surgery she co-owns, Formby GP, and works as a Primary Care Medical Educator facilitating half-day release teaching for local GP trainees. She has a keen interest in medical politics and is the Deputy Council Representative for Mersey Faculty of the Royal College of General Practitioners.
Since starting work at Rowan View, Heather has developed medical education within the Secure Division physical health team at Mersey Care - firstly by developing taster sessions to introduce local GPST3 trainees to secure General Practice, and then by becoming a Clinical Supervisor and hosting a GPST1 trainee two days a week.
Heather lives with her husband and two young children. In her free time she enjoys cooking, travel, and writing.
