It was great to join the Convenzis team again for the patient flow event. As always, the team were incredibly accommodating and happy to help. The quality of attendees is always of a high standard and relevant to the patient flow and to us also. We continue to have great discussions and footfall around our stand with no need to try and encourage people to come and see us. Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, I have applied my research technique, which has been successful in dementia, to help understand COVID-19. I have observed that the primary pathology of the disease is typically several steps away from visible symptoms. In the case of COVID-19, I have proposed that severe disease is a viral-mediated autoimmune response. In April 2020, I first outlined the theory of autoimmunity in COVID-19 based on the interaction between the viral spike protein and serum ACE-2, which was subsequently published in a paper co-authored by Prof Bruce Uhal, the top pulmonary ACE-2 researcher worldwide. Research at Johns Hopkins University has since (October 2020) confirmed autoantibodies to ACE-2 in the serum of severely affected patients, supporting the theory of autoimmunity in COVID-19. I am working towards carrying this research forward with the support of a team of international experts.
