Helen Smith

Helen has worked in forensic psychiatry for nearly 30 years, she is an experienced Medical Director and Responsible Officer. She was, until May 2023, the national clinical advisor in safety in mental health at NHS England. She has extensive experience in Safety and Quality Improvement, having originally completed the executive Patient Safety Officer training at the Institute for Health Improvement in Boston, US and a further qualification at the University of Leeds. She has been involved in the design and delivery of Safety Improvement Programmes in mental health and cross community suicide prevention, at local, regional and national level. This work has been recognised through a number of national awards.
