I work as a neurodevelopmental paediatrician and am leading service development and national research exploring how we can improve autism service delivery for children.
To deliver services for children with neurodevelopmental conditions such as autism, ADHD or cerebral palsy, we already work closely across agencies including paediatric and mental health, education and social care, so formal integration of services is a logical next step.
Our research has shown potential benefits to autism service delivery from the integration of services involved in diagnosis and support for children with neurodevelopmental disorders. Whilst the Health and Care Bill has focussed on adult healthcare, I will argue that this approach is also highly relevant to children’s health and care services, but additionally education.
