Chief Information Officer
British Medical Association
Ian Turfrey is the Chief Information Officer at the British Medical Association. He joined the BMA February 2016 and in a very short timeframe, completely transformed technology services within the association. He took the BMA from on-premise, complex and ageing infrastructure to an integrated, cloud-based secure environment, utilising BI and machine learning for a more empowered collaborative workforce. His key aim is to ensure the association is utilising cutting edge technology to deliver services that directly improve the experience of their valued members.
As Ian says, “When I joined the BMA, we had a bit of a Morecambe & Wise situation: all the right notes, but not necessarily in the right order. After successfully delivering several projects in 2016, we started a seismic cultural shift at the BMA, until we weren’t just a support function anymore; we were innovative leaders who earned permission to transform the whole business.”
Since joining the BMA, Ian has led the team in delivering key business enhancing projects including:
Prior to the BMA, Ian worked at City & Guilds for 10 years, progressing quickly through the ranks to IT Director, after demonstrating his key abilities to oversee complex transformation projects, find creative solutions and ensure a modern, holistic approach.
Ian has a degree in Biotechnology from Southbank University, and went onto gain his CIMA qualifications as a management accountant.
