Jeanette Dickson graduated from Glasgow University in 1991. After gaining her MRCP, she began her clinical oncology training at the Beatson, West of Scotland Cancer Centre, before undertaking an MD in “predicting intrinsic radiosensitivity” at the Paterson Institute, Manchester. She completed her training at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre, where she was appointed a consultant in 2002, and later served as Clinical Director for 5 years, overseeing the introduction of revalidation. Her main clinical interest is in the multimodality management of thoracic malignancies.
Dr Dickson has a significant interest in education and training, and has held a number of roles including RCR Tutor, Clinical Tutor and Training Programme Director, culminating in her becoming the inaugural Head of School of Clinical Oncology for London and Kent Surry Sussex Deaneries. She held this post for 4 years and during this time was responsible for over one third of UK clinical oncology trainees. She remains a GMC accredited educational supervisor and undertakes enhanced consultant appraisal for revalidation. She is also a trained Schwartz Round facilitator.
Dr Dickson has been actively involved with the RCR for 10 years, holding office first as Medical Director, Professional Practice and then as Vice-President, before taking up the role of President in September 2019.
