Maria O’Neil. RGN, BA (HONS) Palliative Care, Queens Nurse, Clinical Nurse Specialist in Palliative Care for Health, and Justice System for Cambridgeshire. Working within Northamptonshire NHS Foundation Trust. Previously hospice Sister for over 22 years. Moving to HMP Littlehey in 2014 as a Primary Care Sister but with the demographic change within the prison my role took another turn and now, I look after HMP Littlehey, HMP Whitemoor and HMP Peterborough, caring for those with life limiting illness and or cancers within a challenging environment. Participated in developing and piloted Dying Well in Custody Charter at HMP Littlehey and currently updating the new version. I work with Edinburgh University devising a new SPICT tool for prisons, and also with NHS England where I have co-written the “Last days of life” care plan for secured services. I have also been involved with the updated version of the e-ELCA palliative care in prison, I am one of the Clinical Leads for the EHCO group, and present around Britain regarding my work in palliative care in secured settings.
