16 years NHS Service
Prior to working in the NHS my experience was within the private sector where for 15 years I was General Manager of a Wholesale Greeting Cards Company. I joined the NHS in 2005, initially working in Newcastle Community Services. I transferred to Newcastle Hospitals as part of the Transforming Community Services programme, initially working as an Assistant Directorate Manager in the General Medicine Directorate between 2011-2013, then as Directorate Manager of the Musculoskeletal Services Directorate between 2013 – 2018 before taking up my current role.
In my current role, I have full responsibility and accountability for The Directorate’s performance against national and local performance and activity targets, clinical outcomes, financial management, patient experience, service integration and collaboration, human resources as well as developmental growth, service improvement and strategic planning. The Directorate has recently become the second largest cancer treatment service in the country with the transfer of the North Cumbria Oncology service to Newcastle Hospitals on 1st April 2021.
I have a number of Corporate roles within the Trust; I chair the Directorate Managers group and the Staff Social Club, am part of the Senior Manager On-Call rota and sit on a large range of Trust level committees and steering groups.
Outside of work, I am a Governor at a local school, a FA registered Football Coach and a member of the executive committee at the club which I coach and a Board member of the Freeman of the City of Newcastle upon Tyne.
I am married with two daughters.
