Colville was a GP in Auchterarder for 31 years.
In 1993 he started running Immediate Care Courses and was Medical Director of BASICS Scotland from2003 till December 2018.
BASICS Scotland provides training in Immediate Care for rural practitioners and is working with the Sandpiper Trust, Scottish Ambulance Service and The Resuscitation Research Group of Edinburgh University on The Sandpiper Wildcat Project. This project aims to improve response times to out of hospital cardiac arrest in rural areas.
He holds the Fellowship and was an examiner in Immediate Care from The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh was Chairman of the Faculty of Pre-hospital Care for 4 years. Also, Pre-hospital Care editor of The EMJ for 6 years, is an associate editor of The Scandinavian Journal Of Trauma, Resuscitation and Emergency Medicine and is an Honorary Professor at The University of Central Lancashire. He is the Examination convenor for the Diploma in Urgent Medical Care Of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
