Richard has spent 25 years studying and practising sustainable development.
Having secured a PhD in sustainable development and land use planning policy from Sheffield University in 2002 he has since worked entirely within the public sector developing and delivering the sustainability content of everything from tourism to travel plans, community programmes, local land-use and organisational change.
The current priority is working out the practical ‘how’ behind the transition to a net-zero circular economy.
He is presently Energy and Sustainability lead at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in Cambridge and chairs the NHS East of England Regional Sustainability Network.
