Suzie has enjoyed a long and varied career in the NHS and associated health related services. Originally training as a general nurse before specialising in paediatrics at Great Ormond Street, Suzie further developed her career as a paediatric cardio-respiratory intensive care nurse at the Brompton Hospital. Suzie then trained as a health visitor and sat on the Professional Executive committee of the first Primary Care Trust in Hertfordshire.

Suzie moved from clinical work becoming Head of Education and Development for a large Primary Care Trust before embarking on independent consultancy work. Her projects have included:

  • developing a decision aid for patients with knee pain considering their treatment options (NHS Institute for Improvement and Innovation)
  • Single Point of Access reforms (NHS Direct and Ambulance service)
  • 18 Week Wait Treatment Pathways (Department of Health)
  • Preoperative and Initial Assessment Do Once & Share datasets (Connecting for Health)
  • service level reviews, professional engagement and curriculum development and initial accreditation project management for the Healthcare Science Practitioner and Healthcare Scientist programmes (DH, Modernising Scientific Careers)
  • accreditation of the assured voluntary register for healthcare scientists by the Professional Standards Authority, plus the approval of master’s level scientists training programmes by the Health Care Professions Council (Academy of Healthcare Science)

Suzie has also worked for the Care Quality Commission as a specialist advisor contributing to inspections across the country. She also regularly chairs university BSc and MSc accreditation panels (National School of Healthcare Science, HEE). Suzie’s most recent activities have been for Health Education England, Centre for Advancing Practice, first as a reviewer before taking a two-month post as Development Lead for Programme Accreditation.

Suzie is qualified as an executive coach and the winner of a Queens Nursing Institute Award. In her spare-time she is a keen cook, tennis player, sailor, gardener and avid reader who loves France. She volunteers for Crisis over the Christmas period, the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust during the summer and sits on various local committees.
