Commencing her initial training in Leeds in 1975, Viv has extensive clinical nursing and maternity experience within both hospital and community settings and was an Associate Lecturer at the University of Bradford. Moving into clinical research in 2003, from 2014 to 2019 Viv held NIHR Reproductive Health and Childbirth Clinical Speciality Lead and Champion Midwife regional and national posts. 
 
Following a brief retirement from the NHS in 2019, Viv rejoined the NHS working as an audit co-ordinator prior to commencing her current post within the Improvement Academy based at the Bradford Institute for Health Research in March 2020 as Lead Audit Midwife within the Maternal Enhanced and Critical Care (MEaCC) project, which seeks to improve care for women who become seriously unwell during pregnancy or the post natal period.
 
Funded through the Y&H Maternity Clinical Network, Viv has been responsible for rolling out the MEaCC Audit to all maternity units across the Yorkshire and Humber region.
