The 10-point Plan: NHS Productivity & Efficiency Congress:
Following on from 2 hugely successful and well followed NHS Productivity Conferences, we are pleased to be able to share details of our 3rd NHS Productivity Congress.
“The NHS productivity congress brought together a diverse group of senior stakeholders from across the health community to discuss the challenges and opportunities posed by the productivity challenge. Convenzis organised the event with a varied agenda and speakers. A good venue and enough time built into the day to browse the exhibitor stands and network. I gained valuable info and insight from the day and made some useful contacts who I’m following up with over the coming weeks to share good practice and ideas.” Head of Digital Products and Transformation at Public Health England
Overall, the NHS is one of the industrialised world’s most efficient health care systems and has substantially lower costs than other advanced European countries such as France, Germany, Sweden and Switzerland. The Germans spend 30 per cent more per person on health care than we do. Also, since 2010 the NHS has been increasing its productivity faster than the rest of the UK economy,
The NHS Long Term Plan sets out the government’s ambitions to improve the quality of care and outcomes in England over the next five years in return for the extra £20.5bn of funding announced by the Prime Minister last summer, within the plans lie 10 points of improvement that the NHS are putting a conscious effort into completing:
- Free up 2000 to 3000 hospital beds
- Further, clamp down on temporary staffing costs and improve productivity
- Use the NHS’ procurement clout
- Get the best value out of medicines and pharmacy
- Reduce avoidable demand and meet demand more appropriately
- Reduce unwarranted variation in clinical quality and efficiency
- Estates, infrastructure, capital, and clinical support services
- Cut the costs of corporate services and administration
