Mr Anil Vara

Director, Elective Care & Recovery
North Yorkshire and Humber ICB

I am a Director in Humber and North Yorkshire ICS with nearly 30 years of experience in the NHS. I have applied my experience on supporting the Elective Recovery Programme since Covid-19 working within the Northeast London ICS and the National Elective Programme at NHS England.

I have a clinical background in Nuclear Medicine and a strong operational track record in managing complex services including, but not limited to, Nuclear Medicine/Radiology, Cardiology, Cardiac Surgery, Urology, and General Surgery. I am democratic, collaborative leader often using emotional intelligence with a strong passion about the application of Continuous Quality Improvement methodology within Elective Care and an ambition to further embed this mind-set within clinical and operational teams to improve patient care whilst improving partnerships between clinical teams across the system.

I have delivered many successes in improving elective services during my career. With the pandemic highlighting and exacerbating health inequalities, I developed a passion for addressing these trends in elective care by improving access to elective services for all our patient population groups and improving the quality of their care. I am an accredited mentor for CMI and the NHS, supporting NHS colleagues in their own development in particular those from BAME backgrounds and successfully completed the Executive Leadership Programme through Inclusive Boards.
