Primary care is the first point of contact for most people with the National Health Service (NHS) in the UK. It is a vital part of the healthcare system, providing essential services to patients, such as general medical care, mental health support, and preventive care. However, the primary care sector in the UK is facing significant challenges, including an aging population, increasing demand for services, and limited resources. To address these challenges, primary care in the NHS is undergoing a transformation. This panel debate will discuss the key topics related to transforming primary care in the NHS.
Key Topics:
- The Role of Technology in Primary Care Transformation - Discussing the use of technology to enhance the delivery of primary care services, including telemedicine, electronic health records, and artificial intelligence (AI).
- Patient-Centered Care - Examining the importance of patient-centered care in the transformation of primary care and the challenges of implementing a patient-centered approach.
- Workforce Development - Discussing the need for workforce development in primary care, including training and support for healthcare professionals, the recruitment and retention of staff, and the development of new roles.
- Integration and Collaboration - Exploring the need for integration and collaboration between primary care and other parts of the healthcare system, such as hospitals and community services, to provide seamless care for patients.
- Funding and Resources - Discussing the funding and resources required to transform primary care in the NHS, including the impact of budget cuts, the need for investment in infrastructure, and the importance of long-term planning.

Unify Medicines Strategy across ICS Digital Ecosystems
Nicholas Meese
Head of Product Management
First Databank
Polly Shepperdson
Partnerships and Alliances Manager
First Databank
In a typical ICS there are often multiple digital platforms, apps and dashboards commissioned by various organisations containing medicines policies that can duplicate or conflict. Dissemination of policies into multiple disparate clinical and administrative workflows introduces inconsistency and inefficiency within the system.
Join us to discover how FDB simplifies system-wide orchestration and delivery of your medicines strategy into your digital ecosystem. During this session we’ll use examples such as antipsychotic use, anticholinergic burden, low carbon inhalers and overdosing of paracetamol, and demonstrate how FDB is enabling 80% of ICBs and Health Boards to overcome medicines optimisation challenges.
